Good Afternoon MCMS Families!

Happy Sunday Afternoon!  We hope that everyone is enjoying some time to rest and this amazing weather.  Last week, MCMS students and staff enjoyed celebrating Red Ribbon Week and committing to Live a Drug Free Life.  Our dress days provided a lot of fun for everyone, decades day seemed to be a big hit with all grades and staff members (the 80's and 90's were well represented!)!

We are proud of the Mid-Carolina High School Marching Band, the Rebel Regiment, who placed 10th in the state this weekend at the 2A State Marching Band Finals. The Rebel Regiment also scored 2nd Place in the Music Ensemble caption.  MCMS has several students who march for the Rebel Regiment.  Congratulations to MCMS Band Director Ms. Waters and her students for this great achievement!

We are proud of all of our students who choose to participate in Band or Chorus at MCMS!  We encourage all of our students to take band or chorus.  Participating in a Performing Arts class is a great way to boost academic achievement and learn a life long skill!

Mindset of the Week- Passion First

The Passion First Mindset teaches us that we are all unique expressions of human existence. It’s vital to find out what our individual strengths and talents are so that we might connect them with our goals and visions for the future. In this mindset, we work with students to understand their unique gifts, their skills and strengths, and how to share them with the world to the maximum extent possible. Not only will they explore their interests, they will begin to identify their core values and what they stand for. 

The next step is helping them learn how to make their dreams into reality, tapping into both the courage and perseverance needed to overcome any challenges they encounter in pursuit of the lives they desire.

Live to Give October- Breast Cancer Awareness

One of our 7 mindsets is Live to Give.  The main focus of this mindset is about serving others.  As a school, we feel it is important to model this idea and life quality for our students.  Each month MCMS will focus on one or more causes to bring awareness too.  This month our Live to Give cause will be Breast Cancer Awareness.

Wizard of Oz Auditions

We are excited to announce auditions for the School District of Newberry County district musical.  This year the district will be putting on the Wizard of Oz.  Please click here for audition information.  

MCMS Veterans Day Assembly

You are invited to honor a Veteran at the annual MCMS Veterans Day Ceremony to be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Veterans will be served a hot breakfast beginning at 7:30 AM in the cafeteria and the annual ceremony will commence at 8:15 AM in the Big Gym. The ceremony will last approximately one hour.

Thanksgiving Family Lunch - 11/16

We are excited to announce our annual Thanksgiving Family Lunch!  Lunch will be Thursday, November 16th! We will send sign up information this week.  Come join us for Turkey & Gravy or Chicken Tenders, Green Beans, Cornbread Dressing, Sweet Potato Souffle, Dinner Roll, and Cinnamon Apples!

MCMS 2023-2024 Field Studies 

We are pleased to announce that we have confirmed Field Study experiences for all three grade levels at MCMS.  This is the first time in several years that we have been able to provide each grade, with an off-campus field study.  Providing enriching activities away from school, helps provide students with a deeper connection to classroom instruction and inspiration for future careers. In the coming weeks, parents will be receiving more information about those upcoming trips.

  • 6th Grade - Roper Mountain (11/30)
  • 7th Grade - Camp Thunderbird (12/11)
  • 8th Grade - Business and Industry Showcase -Laurens CAM Center (11/1) and SC State Museum (Early Spring)

MCMS Athletics

Good luck to our MCMS students who participate with the MCMS and MCHS Cheer teams.  MCMS Cheerleaders dedicate a tremendous amount of time practicing and in competition.  We appreciate you balancing being a student and athlete during this long season.

Basketball Tryouts- MCMS Girls Basketball will hold tryouts on October 30th, 31st, and November 1st from 3:30 - 4:45 PM in the Big Gym.  MCMS Boys Basketball will hold tryouts on October 30th, 31st, and November 1st from 5:00 - 6:15 PM.

Good Afternoon MCMS Families! We hope you and your family are staying cool in this summer heat!  It was a great first week of the 2023-2024 school year.  Students quickly got back in the school routine and settled into their new classes.  It was great having the energy and excitement from our students back in the building for the launch another great year at MCMS! Each week you will receive this update to keep you informed and aware of what is going on at MCMS.  We will send additional reminders for special events and other important information for parents to know throughout the week. MCMS Update - May 20 - 24, 2024

Good Afternoon MCMS Families! Happy Last Friday of the school year!  We have four short days of school left until Summer Break!  We have had fun wrapping up our end of the year activities and closing out another great year at MCMS.  We would like to thank our students, parents, teachers, and community members for all of your support during the year.  We hope everyone has a relaxing summer and we can't wait to see you back in August! On Thursday, May 16th, we inducted our newest group of Junior Beta Club students.  We are excited to see this group serve our school and community.      MCMS End of the Year Awards Ceremonies- May 20, 2024 We have enjoyed celebrating the accomplishments of our 6th and 7th grade students this week.  We have so many talented students and are proud of there hard work.  Our 8th grade class will have there end of the year awards on Monday.  We look forward to honoring the Class of 2028! 8th Grade Awards and P...

MCMS Update- September 17, 2023

Good Afternoon MCMS Families! Happy weekend and we hope that your family is doing well today!  It is fall time and activity around our campus is busy.  The MCMS Athletic teams had a great week, our Volleyball team picked up two wins and our Football team picked up one.  We encourage everyone come out and support our student athletes as compete against teams from around the midlands.  This Thursday (9/21/23) is Grits for Grands at Lunch !  We have almost 250 grandparents registered for this fun event.  We will send out more information to those who registered related to check-in and lunch logistics.  The lunch price will be $5.50 per guest (students are at no cost), cash only .  We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday. Friday, we look forward to celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a school-wide assembly.  We have several students speaking in the program, the MCMS Chorus is performing, and we will have an energetic guest speaker....
