MCMS Update- October 1, 2023
Good Afternoon MCMS Families!
Happy October 1st! We hope that everyone is having a fantastic weekend! As we move into the month of October, we are excited to welcome lots of fun student centered activities. As a school, we are committed to providing high level instruction and providing a positive environment for students to come to every day. Our school motto perfectly fits this idea perfectly, "Student Focused, Community Driven!" We look forward to bringing more student centered activities to our schedule throughout the year.
The end of the first quarter of school will be Wednesday, October 11th. We will have Parent/Teacher conferences on October 13th. You will be receiving communication from our teachers on signing up for a conference. Thank you for your communication and support.
Stay connected with your child's academic progress by monitoring grades on the Parent Portal. Our teachers update grades weekly to make sure you and your child are receiving valuable feedback. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions related to grades.

Mindset of the Week- Everything is Possible
The Everything Is Possible Mindset teaches that we are all capable of living extraordinary lives. Students will learn that everything which exists today was once just an idea until someone believed it was possible and took the actions to make it into reality. This is true with our lives as well – they become, in many ways, whatever we expect them to be.
Throughout the lessons for this mindset, we work with students to help them understand the incredible promise of their lives, and to envision extraordinary happiness, meaning and success on their own terms. We seek to instill the belief that their goals are possible, and to foster the courage, discipline and persistence to act on achieving their dreams.
Student Volunteer Opportunities
Students, be on the look out for information in your email about possible volunteer opportunities around school and the community. Thank you for having a Live to Give mindset and helping improve our community!
Early Student Pick up/Dismissal
If you are picking a student up early from school, please do so prior to 2:40 pm. Our student handbook outlines the expectation that students will not be allowed to be picked up early from school after 2:40 pm, unless there is an extreme family emergency. If your child has a late afternoon medical appointment, please pick them up prior to 2:40 pm. We appreciate your commitment to minimizing the disruptions to our classrooms during the school day. We do understand emergencies may occur but please plan any early pick up before the 2:40 pm deadline.
From our Student Handbook: “There will be no early dismissals during the last 30 minutes of the school day except in the case of extreme emergencies.”
Parent Survey Reminder
Thank you to those individuals who have completed the Parent Survey for the district Re-Accreditation. If you have not completed the survey, please take a few minutes to do so. Your feedback is valuable as we look to improve as a school and district. Please look for the email that Dr. Dobyns sent out on September 25, 2023 with a link to the survey.

PTO Needs Parents
The MCMS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will host its next meeting on Monday, October 2nd at 5:30 PM in the Media Center. We are looking for more parents to assist with this group. Please contact Dr. Dobyns, pdobyns@sdnc.org, if you have any questions about either group.
Volunteers Needed
The MCMS is looking for volunteers to help in several different areas around campus. We are looking for people to assist with Club Days, cover lunch duty for our teachers, and other school activities. Please email Jared Jones at jjones@sdnc.org if you are interested in helping.
MCMS Athletics
Good luck to our MCMS Volleyball and Football teams who are back in competition this week. Volleyball will have an Away gam on Tuesday and a Home game Thursday. Our Football team will play at Home on Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Good luck to both teams!
If you have any questions about MCMS athletics or your child's athletic participation, please reach out to our Athletic Director, Coach David Meetze (dmeetze@sdnc.org).
Thank you for your constant support of our teachers and school. Mid-Carolina is a great school with a great community!
